We Focus Solely On Estates Planning and Probate Administration
Unlike many law firms in Polk County, we at Herron Keller Moore focus only on one area of the law: estate planning. Although this limits both the number and type of client that we see, there is a reason that our practice focuses solely on wills, trusts, and the administration of estates.
Experience: Our attorneys and staff are true experts in the creation of and administration of estates. With nearly a century of combined experience exclusive to estates-related work, there isn’t much that we haven’t seen. Our legal staff has spent time on both sides of the fence, having worked in private practice and for the Florida judiciary. Thus, we inherently understand both client goals and what the State requires to get there. In fact, our staff has literally written the policy manual for the Probate Department of one of Florida's Judicial Circuits.
Complexity: We feel strongly that estates planning work is not something that attorneys should “dabble” in or practice part time. You’re either in or you're out. This is because estates work can be complex. To properly craft these documents, a lawyer needs to have sharp attention to detail (titles, taxes, accounting, etc.) and must be familiar with laws that are constantly changing. There are some areas of the law that do well with improvisation or tangential knowledge of the subject area. Will, trusts, and estates don’t because there is zero room for error in these all-important set of documents.
Timing: We at Herron Keller Moore understand that many do not think about their estates until the very end. And that when the time comes, it may be sudden. Practicing solely in estates allows us to have greater flexibility with our time than those who “dabble” in this practice area. This is because we do not have emergency motions or hearings that are due. Nor do we have trials that need preparation. Instead, our days are spent working with and advising our clients. And the late nights or irregular hours? Those are spent providing emergency counsel. We know that health can change on the course of a dime. And we’re honored to assist in any way that we can.
Personality: We’re well aware that the underlying subject of our practice is a sensitive topic. After all, our clients contact us to either plan for their own passing or because a loved one has recently passed. No matter, these are topics that are both difficult and rarely discussed. We at Herron Keller Moore understand the sensitive nature of our practice and that for many, our discussions will be uncomfortable. This is why we start by listening and then continue to do so throughout our interactions. It allows our clients to share and discuss at a comfortable pace.
